The month of June saw Sanctuary Villas & Apartments win another prestigious accolade, recommended as one of Wendy Perrin’s “rigorously vetted villa rental agents” in her Condé Nast Traveler magazine article “Worldwide Guide to Affordable Villa Vacations”. This is the second year running that this accolade has now been bestowed upon Sanctuary.

The article was based on the author’s quest to find an affordable villa, without sacrificing comfort or amenities. Over the years Wendy has perfected strategies for yielding the most value out of a consumer’s villa rental dollar. She shares her field-tested tips with her readers, and presents a list of 48 rigorously vetted villa rental agents, representing properties from Antigua to Zanzibar. The list was compiled by way of a 53-question document designed to assess a rental agent’s competency, connections, and business practices.

Each agent was asked to send a sample house book and driving directions, and other preparatory information and questionnaires that they give clients, checklists they use to evaluate properties, and at least one client reference. After this process, the most promising agents were interviewed by phone to evaluate their friendliness, honesty and familiarity with the villas and regions they represent.

Our Sanctuary Villas and Apartments employees, Gaia Anichini, a native Florentine, and Nick Westwood, our contracts manager, were awarded special praise for the fact that they had personally visited all of the villas they represent - indeed they have slept in the vast majority of the villas. They also inspect the properties more than once a season, speak the language of each country fluently, handpick villas that they feel have an authentic sense of the area, and help write the villa house books.
