Andrew Harper ~ The Ultimate Resource for the Luxury Traveler

Greece is a country steeped in tradition and history. Ancient Greece was at the heart of the civilized world producing exceptional creativity in thinking, writing and theatre. Much of the country’s rich heritage is in evidence today with Doric temples existing alongside modern architecture.

A third of the population of Greece lives in the capital, Athens, whilst nearly three quarters of the land is uncultivated and uninhabited. The islands, with names that conjure up images of crystal blue sea, fine beaches and white and blue villages, make the rest of the world feel grey and cold. Here and in the rural backwaters of the mainland, life runs in the slow lane, much as it has done for centuries.

Modern Greece is a developed country ensnared by the tropical blue Aegean Sea; it consists of a mountainous and in places arduous mainland which juts confidently out into the sea, and numerous idyllic isles including the Dodecanese, the Ionian islands and the Cyclades. Many travellers visit Greece each year, enchanted by the warmth of its welcome and its typical sunny and hot Mediterranean climate.

Mainland Greece is famed for its principle sights of Athens, which date back some 3,500 years and the Peloponnese, a collection of cities encompassing Corinth, the largest Roman township in Greece, Epidaurus, renowned for its magnificent 4th century BC theatre, Nafplio and Ancient Olympia, home to the original Olympian Games.

The Cyclade islands is also an area which appeal to travellers, with the beautiful islands of Mykonos and the picture postcard destination of Santorini creating a vivid and memorable backdrop to any luxury villa vacation.
